Analytic Platform

Joey Jablonski | October 24, 2018

A growing set of disparate systems is bound to develop organically within any large company. These are needed to support sales, marketing, finance and operations. Each of these systems will inevitably have their own supporting databases, workflow systems, business logic and operational models. It is imperative that the users of these systems have access to explore and view data that is cumulative from previously separate databases. This is essential as companies look to improve efficiency and target new markets.

"Laying a Foundation for Data-Driven Decisions with the IHM Analytic Platform"

google Supporting the needs of over 850 radio stations is no trivial task. Each station and associated market has unique needs for lead and pipeline management, sales accountability, financial accounting and market specific metrics and ratings. Bringing this data together into a flexible, scalable view that works for the individual markets and the corporate leadership is critical to corporate success at iHeartMedia ( iHM ).

The primary tool to bring this data together for analysis is the Analytic Platform (AP). AP is a shared environment, hosted on the Google Cloud Platform, combining tools for data integration, data quality, data storage, query, analysis and presentation. iHeartMedia has taken an approach of leveraging PaaS wherever possible. This will minimize the operational overhead while building business logic in a manner that it is flexible and portable across cloud vendors and data platforms.ing the needs of over 850 radio stations is no trivial task. AP has been built leveraging a combination of Google services including BigQuery and Cloud Storage. These services have been stitched together for iHeartMedia usage using languages like Python and Java. This combination provides iHeartMedia the most flexibility as business needs change, while enabling a variety of business teams to build on the platform quickly.

The Analytic Platform is not a one-time project that is built, deployed and operated until retirement. AP will continue to evolve as the business develops new uses and new technologies are released. Today, AP lays a groundwork for integrating data sets that were previously separate, enabling business users’ views of data that were never possible.

As the iHM Analytic Platform grows, we are looking for excited individuals to join our team and help us power the next generation of digital media!
